Chitrangada is a story of a dancer,Rudra Chatterjee, who had to study engineering to fulfill his father's dream. He, however, ends up becoming a choreographer. During the staging of Tagore’s “Chitrangada”, he falls in love with Partho (percussionist) and they both wish to adopt a child. What steps does Rudra take to fulfill his wish along with the struggles he and his family faces form the rest of the plot.

The film premiered on 25 May 2012 at the New York Indian Film Festival and is based on the character of Chitrangada from Mahabharata.The movie boldly ventures upon the lifestyle and struggles of gay choreographer which was perceived as a taboo subject so far.

About the Director

Rituparno Ghosh (31 August 1963 – 30 May 2013) was an Indian Bengali film director. After pursuing a degree in economics he started his career as a creative artist at an advertising agency.

Ghosh was a self-professed Satyajit Ray fan and inspired other filmmakers like MithaqKazimi who adapted Ghosh's film Raincoat in English.

In his career spanning almost two decades he won 12 national and many international awards.A quick recap of his work would bring up movies like Titli, Raincoat, Chitrangada, The Last Lear to mention a few.

Apart from direction, he has tried his hands on acting , anchoring shows on TV and has also been the editor of a Bengali Film Magazine.

Ghosh passed away on 30 May 2013 in Kolkata after a heart attack.
