Made for the New Delhi-based Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts’ ‘Great Masters’ series, it attempts to deconstruct the man and the writer through his environment and influences. It travels M.T.’s journey tracing the moods and movements of river Nila on whose banks the writer was born and raised. It tracks the meandering river and its pit stops through Kudallur, Kalamandalam, Kalpathy and Ponnani to rebuild the sights and sounds that make the brick and mortar of M.T.’s stories.

About the Film

The documentary by ace director K P Kumaran highlights the creativity of the multi-facted personality who had contributed immensely as an editor, writer and film director.The Visual Arts department of IGNCA had created a documentary as part of the “Great Masters" series which focuses on the eminent figures in the cultural domain of contemporary India.

About the Director

K. P. Kumaran is a Malayalam film maker. His major films include Rugmini (winner of the 1989 National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam), Thenthulli, Laxmivijayam and Thottam.

His latest film, Akasha Gopuram, is based on Henrik Ibsen's play The Master Builder.

Kumaran's first directorial venture was Rock , a short film which won an international award. His first full-lemgth feature film was Adhithi.He has also co-authored the script of Swayamvaram.

About the Guest

Sashi Kumar is founder of India’s first regional satellite TV channel Asianet. He is currently the chairman of the prestigious Asian College of Journalism, Chennai.

An alumnus of Loyola and Madras Christian College, he started his career as a newsreader with Doordarshan. "Kaya Taran", a Hindi movie was directed by him and earned him the best debut film-maker of 2004.

He has also acted in a few movies in Malayalam movie industry.
